Due to popular demand and feedback from our Smart Science customers, we’re now offering Science teachers the opportunity to purchase our comprehensive Smart Science Assessment Packs.
Each Assessment Pack is linked to the 2014 Programme of Study and compatible with any Scheme of Work for Science.
This flexible, cost-effective solution to Key Stage 3 Assessment in Science will provide you with the perfect platform to assess all students whilst preparing them for GCSE success.
This digital Assessment Pack 3 (extracted from the comprehensive Teacher’s Handbook 3) will be made available to download in both PDF and Word format once purchased from Smart Learning.
End-of-Unit Tests (and Marking Guides)
You will find one End-of-Unit test for each of the five Units that make up Teacher’s Handbook 3. These tests can be used:
- Formatively, to check progress in the relevant Working Scientifically focus and to diagnose areas of weakness; or
- Summatively, to assess students’ understanding and application of the relevant Working Scientifically focus.
For each End-of-Unit test, you will find a student test paper as well as a Marking Guide. An End-of-Unit test may take up to one full lesson (one hour) to complete. These tests are levelled and fully editable so that you can tailor them to suit the ability levels of your students and the time you have available.
Like the test papers themselves, the Marking Guides use the Progress escalator levels from the Smart Science Knowledge and Skills Assessment Model as a guiding principle, giving you a guide as to the level a student will attain if they consistently answer questions of that level accordingly.
End-of-KS3 Test (and Marking Guide)
To conclude learning for Key Stage 3 of your chosen Scheme of Work, this pack includes a synoptic End-of-KS3 test which has been designed to assess students’ knowledge and understanding across the three science disciplines and Working Scientifically, and which provides an assessment opportunity for readiness of GCSE. This test comprises a student test paper and Marking guide.
An End-of-KS3 test may take up to 90 minutes to complete. These tests are levelled and fully editable so that you can tailor them to suit the ability levels of your students and the time you have available.
This test comprises two multi-part questions per science discipline. Within each multi-part question, the sub-questions gradually increase in difficulty. The test concludes with a six-mark question. The test contains a high degree of synopticity, thereby encouraging students to demonstrate their breadth and depth of knowledge and application across all science disciplines and topics.
The Marking guide provides pointers on assessing and developing important GCSE skills such as explaining science in context and developing a higher quality of written communication.
