This 48-page Student’s Book provides an inspiring selection of texts on the theme of crime and detection, presented in striking layouts that will motivate and engage Key Stage 3 students.
Our varied and engaging selection of texts offers a unique mix of classic and contemporary material, which provide a rich variety of perspectives on crime and detection for students to explore.
This thought-provoking anthology pushes boundaries on the theme of crime and detection and includes extracts on fictional characters such as Philip Marlowe and Sherlock Holmes, modern novel’s including Morris Gleitzman’s ‘Once’, in addition to original, non-fiction texts, on for example the Bhopal disaster.
Allowing students to explore the sociological notions of crime, this book will facilitate rich discussion and address fundamental questions such as what is crime? How is crime prevented? What is a detective and what do we mean by detection?
Our inspired sociological approach to this book, which expands far and wide on the notion of crime allows students from all abilities to relate to and engage with these texts.
There are no pre-set activities in this book, which allows students to dive in and explore texts without distraction. This also means that the texts can be used very flexibly across Key Stage 3.
This Student’s Book is designed to be used in conjunction with the Crime & Detection Teacher’s Book and the Crime & Detection Resource CD-ROM.
